## Beyond transcript edits, into full visuals

Descript edits talking-head video through its transcript and Underlord agent. ChatCut edits transcripts too, and generates editable motion graphics, local 4K exports and XML handoffs without a paywall.

## Build visuals around your conversation

Give ChatCut your interview, podcast or tutorial and describe the cuts, captions and graphics you want together.

### Keep the answer, cut the false starts

Ask ChatCut to trim repeated interview answers and awkward pauses while keeping the speaker’s meaning intact.

### Give spoken ideas something to show

When your podcast needs more than a transcript, ask ChatCut to build editable charts and callouts around the explanation.

[Try Editorial Explainer](https://pr-821-preview.chatcut.dev/skills/motion-graphics?template=mg-packaging-editorial-explainer)

### Make interview clips readable on mute

Ask ChatCut to caption your interview highlights and emphasize the key words in your show’s visual style.

[Try Add captions](https://pr-821-preview.chatcut.dev/skills/add-captions)

### Turn a walkthrough into a feature story

Give ChatCut your tutorial footage and ask for a focused feature tour with titles, callouts and a clear ending.

## Use ChatCut from your agent

Paste one prompt into Claude Code or Codex. It installs ChatCut and starts the edit.

### Claude Code

Shape a podcast highlight

Read chatcut.io/desktop to install ChatCut, then find one self-contained answer in my interview recording, cut it into a 60-second vertical clip, remove false starts, reduce background noise and add captions without changing the speaker’s meaning.

### Codex

Package a tutorial for viewers

Read chatcut.io/desktop to install ChatCut, then turn my narrated screen recording into a 90-second tutorial, cut repeated explanations, add chapter titles and callouts, and keep the graphics editable on the timeline.

## ChatCut vs Descript FAQ

Is ChatCut a Descript alternative?

Yes, for interviews, podcasts and tutorials you want an AI agent to edit on an adjustable timeline. Both offer speech cleanup, captions, generated media and prompt-based editing. Descript is a strong fit if your workflow centers on editing the transcript; ChatCut is worth considering when you want to combine those edits with custom, editable motion graphics.

Does Descript also have an AI agent and reusable skills?

Yes: Underlord edits from instructions, supports reusable skills and can be reached through Descript’s MCP from external assistants. ChatCut also supports reusable editing skills and connections to Claude Code and Codex, including a local MCP connection to ChatCut Desktop. Compare the actual workflow and export limits rather than assuming only one editor has an agent.

Is ChatCut free?

Yes. The Free plan includes the editor, uploads, transcription, captions and standard exports. AI generation and the built-in agent use credits, and AI video generation needs a paid plan.

Can I use ChatCut from Claude Code or Codex?

Yes. The ChatCut plugin runs in Claude Code and the Codex app, and ChatCut Desktop connects Claude Code, Codex and other agents through a local MCP server. Your agent edits the real timeline, which you can keep adjusting by hand.

Can I finish a ChatCut edit in another editor?

Yes. ChatCut exports XML timelines for Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and ChatCut Desktop also exports editable CapCut drafts. It does not export Final Cut Pro XML (FCPXML).
